London – 23 October, 2013 – Jo Lawrence, single mum, entrepreneur and founder of Pink Plumbers, announced today the launch of her new book, entitled: ‘Hints and Tips for the Practical Plumber’. The book is designed to help plumbers navigate through the difficulty of setting up their own plumbing business and to help plumbing students qualify.

book cover as on the websiteDrawing on over 9 years of experience working as a plumber, Jo Lawrence’s insights and practical tips ensure that the transition to the real world of plumbing is a pain free and positive step. Having recognised that there is an entrepreneurial desire for many plumbers of all ages, and that there is a lack of access to the right support to get started, Jo is determined to help this desire become reality. That is why ‘Hints and Tips’ is the must-have book to help plumbers get the confidence to get out there and turn their plumbing skills into a thriving business.

The book is split into two sections. The first covers everything you need to know to start a plumbing business from how to cost a job, how to invoice and how to deal with customers – even when they are unhappy. The second provides a range of useful plumbing tips that could prove a godsend to help a student get qualified and to help a newly qualified plumber handle something unexpected.

Although written by a female plumber, the book is designed to help plumbers of both genders.

Helping people realise their dreams
Independent research published by Pink Plumbers shows that two out of three people (63%) want to be their own boss. The figure rises to almost three quarters (72%) for women between the ages of 35-44 – some 13% higher than men of the same age (59%).

The research was carried out by One Poll and captures responses from 2000 UK adults. In fact, the results indicate that 47% of women and 49 % of men between the ages of 18-24 and 70% of women and 61% of men aged over 55 would rather be their own boss.

Two thirds of people long to be their own boss

Friday, August 16th, 2013
  • More women (66%) than men (60%) want to be an entrepreneur
  • Almost three quarters of women aged 35-44 want to run their own business
  • Entrepreneurial spirit alive and well if we nurture it

London – August 16, 2013 New independent research published today by Pink Plumbers, a national brand delivered locally by qualified female plumbers, shows that almost two out of three people (63%) want to be their own boss. In fact women have more desire to be their own boss (66%) than men (60%).The figure rises to almost three quarters (72%) for women between the ages of 35-44 – some 13% higher than men of the same age (59%).

The research was carried out in May by One Poll and captures responses from 2000 UK adults. It shows that this entrepreneurial desire seems to run throughout all age groups. In fact, the results indicate that 47% of women and 49 % of men between the ages of 18-24 and 70% of women and 61% of men aged over 55 would rather be their own boss.

One in five adults (20%) want to stay in their current job but even fewer (17%) would go and work for someone else. So it’s official, the best boss seems to be yourself.

Helping people realise their dreams
However, starting a business is a daunting prospect in boom times, let alone in the current economic climate and most budding entrepreneurs out there don’t always have the necessary support to get started.

Jo Lawrence, single mum, entrepreneur and successful plumber, is determined to help plumbers – especially women – to set up their own local plumbing business. Having recognised that there is currently a gap between women completing their training in college and actually operating as plumbers, Jo is determined to make it easier for women wanting to go into the trade by providing them with the necessary support and confidence needed to get out there and just do it. As a result she has created a new licence hybrid franchise model which gives entrepreneurs the support they need to get started without the costs usually associated with buying a franchise.

Research show consumers want more female plumbers
When asked if more women should be working as plumbers, a whopping 86% of women think there should be more women working as plumbers. Even though this industry is male dominated, surprisingly 69% of men also think there should be more women working in the trade.

Inspiring plumbers of the future
Apart from setting up her Pink Plumbers franchise, Jo has also been proactive in organising a series of College Roadshows across UK where she has been speaking to young students about her own experiences as a plumber and what to expect when entering the real world of plumbing. Her aim is to inspire students to believe in themselves and believe that becoming their own boss is really possible.

To also help students and plumbers get started, Jo will be publishing a book called ‘Hints and Tips for the Practical Plumber’, a unique and essential guide to help them turn their plumbing skills into a thriving plumbing business. This insightful and practical guide is designed to provide business as well as plumbing tips to help plumbers navigate through the difficulty of setting up on their own. The book will be launched in September and will be available for purchase online at www.amazon.co.uk

Aylesbury – June 3, 2013 – Today Pink Plumbers, a national brand delivered locally by qualified female plumbers, launches its operation in Bucks & Berks under the expertise of Gemma Lawrence-Davis. With its headquarters in Aylesbury, Pink Plumbers will aim to service that town and surrounding areas of up to 35 miles away.

Plumbing into the pulse of the nation – with a focus on Buckinghamshire & Berkshire

An independent report of over a 1,000 UK households published by Pink Plumbers shows that Britain no longer expects or wants a man to do their dirty work but would rather have a choice of a male or female tradesperson.

When asked what gender they would prefer to fix their plumbing issues, a whopping 86% of women would rather choose a woman or at least have a choice of a woman as a plumber. Only a paltry 14% specifically chose a man for what has traditionally been considered ‘man’s work’.

“Inspiration!”

Having worked within the fitness industry for many years and knowing that she never wanted to sit behind a desk all day long, Gemma’s inspiration came after helping a relative fit her bathroom. Since that day she has worked hard to secure her qualifications and experience and now hopes to fit bathrooms and fix plumbing issues all over the Bucks & Berks region.

Any woman inspired by Gemma or more importantly needs her expertise to fix a plumbing issue can contact her on gemma@pinkplumbers.co.uk

It’s a man’s world…not anymore as millions of women would rather have a choice on who does their dirty work

Tuesday, May 15th, 2012

London – May 17, 2012 – An independent report of over a 1,000 UK households published today by Pink Plumbers shows that Britain no longer expects or wants a man to do their dirty work but would rather have a choice of a male or female tradesperson. Furthermore, in a double dip recession the report also provides signs of hope to all entrepreneurs looking to set up a business.

Plumbing into the pulse of the nation

When asked what gender they would prefer to fix their plumbing issues, a whopping 86% of women would rather choose a woman or at least have a choice of a woman as a plumber. Only a paltry 14% specifically chose a man for what has traditionally been considered ‘man’s work’.

Big brands a turn off

The respondents from around the UK were also asked which type of plumbing business they would trust the most to do a good job. The results indicate that a small company supported by a recognisable brand would be trusted the most with 50% of people scoring four or five on a scale of one to five. Sole traders ranked second and big companies were the least trusted with just 29% scoring four or five.
